While Akshay Kumar will continue with his character of a God in the sequel, Pankaj Tripathi has stepped into Paresh Rawal‘s role and he will play the central character. Oh My God! was inspired from director Umesh Shukla‘s play Kanji Virudh Kanji and Shukla also directed Oh My God! However, the sequel is being directed by Road To Sangam director Amit Rai. Rai has also directed a short film on sanitary pads titled I-Pad, which eventually inspired Akshay’s social drama, Padman.
Director Umesh Shukla dismissed the rumours that he is disappointed because he was not offered to direct the sequel of Oh My God! He said, “Akshay Kumar sir is the master mind and he chooses his subjects for films in a wise manner. I am not aware why Paresh Rawal is not playing the central character in the sequel but I am sure that Akshay sir and Paresh Rawal have a great understanding and the sequel will be a great success. People should not jump to any conclusions about why I am not directing the sequel.”
Shukla added, “I am aware that Amit Rai is directing the sequel and he is a very bright and talented man. I am sure he will make a good film, which will connect with masses and I wish the entire team all the best.”
Oh my God 2 is written and directed by Amit Rai and produced by Vipul D Shah, Rajesh Bahl and Ashwini Varde.
