Umbrella Corporation and Albert Wesker ring in a new chapter of blood-soaked chaos in the first trailer for Netflix’s upcoming Resident Evil live-action series.
Resident Evil, set to debut on July 14, is set in 2036, more than a decade after a dealy virus caused a global apocalypse. One of the characters at the center of the story is Jade Wesker, who fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.
Unveiled on Thursday, the Resident Evil clip features Lance Reddick as Albert one of the Capcom video game franchise’s most notorious villains. He promises two girls, played by Tamara Smart and Siena Agudong, a bright future in New Raccoon City.
“I really think you guys are going to love it here,” Reddick says in the present day.
The trailer’s idyllic tone quickly subsides with a glimpse into a harrowing future, where a future Jade (Ella Balinska) confronts a hoard of the undead. From the minute-long clip teaser, Resident Evil seems to offer bloody action, frights and thrills. Devoted and eagle-eyed fans of the Resident Evil games can even catch a glimpse at easter eggs if they watch the trailer carefully enough.
Resident Evil‘s cast also features Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nuñez, Ahad Raza, Connor Gossatti and Turlough Convery.
The upcoming series comes from Andrew Dabb, who executive produces and writes alongside Mary Leah Sutton. Robert Kulzer and Oliver Berben of Constantin Film also serve as executive producers. Constantin Film CEO Martin Moszkowicz produces and Constantin Film is the studio.
