“I am happy to hear that our film has been selected for the Oscars,” says Jaffar Idukki, who has played a pivotal role in ‘Jallikattu’.
The senior actor who has been part of plenty of Malayalam films refers to the opportunity of working with Lijo Jose Pellissery as a ‘blessing’. “I am blessed to have worked with Lijo Jose Pellissery. What makes him unique is that he never shies away from asking the artist, the performance he is looking for. He tells it straight away. It’s not that he would yell at you for improvising your performance, but communicates with you about what he is seeking. I think that works wonders,” Jaffar Idukki shares.
The actor also elaborates about the iconic single-shot sequence from the film, in which Kuriachan (Jaffar Idukki) is making arrangements for his daughter’s wedding and also handling phone calls, “Most of them ask me how I managed to pull off the single-shot scene and how many retakes we did. Lijo enacted the scene and we took about three or four takes. There wasn’t a lot of rehearsal. I used to be an impressionist before films happened, and I guess that helped me to grasp the directions Lijochan (Lijo Jose Pellissery) gave.”
Jaffar Idukki signs off by sharing that ‘awards and recognitions are always an honour’ and that he is elated to hear ‘Jallikattu’ being selected as India’s official entry for the 93rd Academy Awards.
Meanwhile, Jaffar Idukki has also bagged a pivotal role in Lijo Jose Pellissery’s forthcoming film ‘Churuli’.
