2017 didn’t leave us with too many good movies to be grateful for. While there were a few outstanding not-so-commercial films that won our hearts – ‘Newton’, ‘Secret Superstar’, and ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ – bigger productions like ‘Tubelight’, ‘Jagga Jasoos’ and ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ didn’t quite set the cash registers ringing.
But we have our expectations set for 2018, with some major films in the pipeline. Here are our top movies to look out for in the year to come. And fingers crossed, 2018 should be the year of hits.
1. ‘Thugs of Hindostan’
This one is definitely on our have-to-watch list. Director Vijay Krishna Acharya brings together two of Indian cinemas legends for the action adventure. Starring Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan , the film is based on 19th-century novel ‘Confession of a Thug’ by Philip Meadows Taylor. Also starring Katrina Kaif, and Fatima Sana Shaikh, the Yash Raj Film (YRF) will hit the theaters on November 7, 2018.
Set in 1948, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gold’ tells the historic story of India’s first Olympic medal win post-Independence. The Excel Entertainment film is being executed by Reema Kagti, who had previously directed Aamir Khan in ‘Talaash’. Also starring Kiara Advani, the film is scheduled for an Independence Day release.
3. ‘Veere Di Wedding’
Sisters Sonam and Rhea Kapoor are back together after ‘Khoobsurat’. And this time they’ve got Bollywood’s leading ladies – Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhaskar, Shikha Talsania – to join the bandwagon. And from the looks of it, this one is going to be a big, fat wedding. Helmed by Shashanka Ghosh, we’ll have to wait till 18th May to add things to our wedding wishlist.
4. ‘Race 3’
Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez have wrapped up the first schedule of the highly anticipated film ‘Race 3’, which is being directed by Remo D’Souza. The film has been the talk of the town since it went on floors in November. From the stars’ regular updates, the cast has shot a few action scenes and even a dance number thus far.
Director Remo took to his social media account to announce the wrapping of the scheduled shoot by sharing a picture of his leading with a caption that read, ” It’s a wrap #mumbaischedule. #race3. #racetofinish.”
Apart from Salman and Jacqueline reuniting on the big screen, the actioner will also feature Anil Kapoor, Daisy Shah, Bobby Deol and Saqib Saleem.
Fans can look forward to more such sneak peeks from the sets, when the team heads to Dubai and Abu Dhabi for the next schedule of the film.
‘Race 3’ is slated to hit theatres on Eid 2018.
Akshay Kumar will be soon seen playing Havildar Ishar Singh in ‘Kesari’, the leader of the 1897 Battle of Saragarhi, is gearing up for some high-octane stunts in the film.
According to reports, the actor will be learning traditional artillery, sword fighting and Gatka (an Indian martial art form associated with the Sikhs of the Punjab region) for the same.
Considering it, being the oldest form of self-defense that Sikhs resorted to, the makers have reportedly decided to showcase it in the film. Akshay has allegedly allowed fifteen days for training.
As per reports, although the hand-to-hand combat scenes are few, the team is contemplating roping in pehelwans from the akharas of Punjab to lend authenticity.
Currently, the superstar is busy promoting ‘PadMan’, that also stars Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte.
